NYCon Budget

How we calculate

The rules

No AI model, no bait prices. We calculate with checked data: beds and rooms by neighbourhood and season, ticket prices, daily rates for food and subway, fares per airport and month. Every number carries a check note.

Trip length

From the budget we subtract the fixed items: flights, ESTA, eSIM, insurance, getting to and from the airport. The rest is divided by the cost of one night: bed or room including taxes plus food, subway and tickets. The result is the number of nights that fit, at least three, at most ten.

Three ways to travel

“Tight” means a hostel bed and almost only free things, “Frugal” a small room of your own, “Breathing room” a cheap hotel with one paid highlight. We deliberately plan nothing pricier.

Free windows

Some museums cost nothing at certain times, such as the Whitney on Friday evenings or the 9/11 Museum on Monday afternoons. We schedule those stops for that window and count them at zero.

What is in and what is not

In: flights, lodging with taxes, food with tips, subway, tickets, ESTA, eSIM, insurance. Not in: shopping, drinks in bars, souvenirs. That is what the buffer is for.

Affiliate links

Buttons marked “Ad” lead to providers such as Aviasales, Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Airalo or SafetyWing. If you book there, we receive a commission; the price is the same. ESTA and free tickets link only to the official sites, without commission.
